Title of talk: Influence without Affluence

Radhanath Swami is a globally renowned author, speaker and philanthropist. His philanthropic work includes managing hospitals, mobile clinics and food distribution programs. His project midday meals feeds over 1 million children per day. His autobiography The Journey Home tell of his adventure as a teenager from a suburb in Chicago to now being one of India's most respected spiritual teachers.

Martin Wolf Speaks at the Cambridge Union

Martin Wolf is chief economics commentator at the Financial Times and widely considered the world’s most influential writer on economics.

He has been a forum fellow at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos since 1999 and a member of the UK government's Independent Commission on Banking in 2010-2011. He will be speaking on the subject of his most recent book “The Shifts and The Shocks” which is a comprehensive analysis of the lessons of the financial crisis. Past books include “Why Globalisation Works” and “Fixing Global Finance”.

Robert Downey Jr. Speaks at the Cambridge Union

Robert Downey Jr. is currently the highest paid actor in Hollywood, starring in multiple box-office hits such Iron Man, the Avengers and Sherlock Holmes.

Downey is currently in the UK promoting his new film, The Judge, co-produced by his production company Team Downey and starring Downey himself.

This House Believes UKIP has been Good for British Politics

The rise of UKIP represents the most serious threat in a generation to the dominance of the political establishment. In this debate we ask whether this and the issues it has thrust to the forefront of national politics is a positive development.

Surprise Speaker Announcements

The Union can officially confirm that Robert Downey jr. will be speaking at the Union on Friday, 17th October, and the Israeli Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Daniel Taub, will be speaking on Monday 20th October.
