General Sir Peter Wall is Chief of the General Staff - the professional head of the British Army. After studying Engineering at Queens' College, Cambridge, he served with the Royal Engineers. He oversaw British operations during the invasion of Iraq and commanded the First Armoured Division in securing Basra. Giving evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry, General Wall stated that the government had not known the scale of the task they were taking on. He has also spoken publicly about the need for reorganisation of the armed forces in the wake of the Strategic Defence Review.
