This House Believes The Commonwealth Still Serves a Purpose
Thursday 15th June
7:30pm
The Cambridge Union
Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of His Majesty King Charles, there has been debates about the role of monarchy and the imperial era. There are those that see the Commonwealth as the vestige of the British Empire which confers no significant benefits to its members. Others highlight the virtues of the Commonwealth in our modern era and argue it promotes peace and prosperity. This debate brings to light the question of whether the Commonwealth is an outdated relic or a purposeful institution in today’s global landscape.
