Sponsorship of individual debates/speaker events

Sponsorship of a debate or speaker event means that your brand will be prominently displayed at the event, mentioned by the chair, and given relevant social media exposure. Employees of your company will also be welcome to attend for free.

As we are still planning our term card, the list of speakers is constantly increasing. A full list of all speakers currently confirmed is available on request. Usually, the cost of sponsoring a speaker event will be paying the speaker's travel and hospitality expenses.

Sponsorship of the Cambridge IV

Each year we host an international debating tournament at the Union, involving 130 teams and over 400 debaters from across the globe, including teams from India, Malaysia, Canada, the US and most of Europe.

The competition is held over two days and is one of the prestigious tournaments of its kind in the world. Sponsorship of the competition would give the opportunity to be include of the name of the competition for the year, use of all the competition's email lists and social media, and the opportunity to address the entire competition before the final – which will be streamed live to members from across the globe.

Cambridge Schools Competition

The Cambridge Schools competition is the largest of its kind in the world, involving 600 teams from schools across the UK and Ireland. There are a series of local rounds of debating and workshops, run by Cambridge student debaters and held over a few months, and then a finals day at Cambridge itself in February. Each year we try to give bursary teams to as many schools as possible, and so any sponsorship would be used to increase the number of these.

Sponsorship of the competition would give the opportunity to be included in the name of the competition for the year, use of all the competition's email lists and social media, and the opportunity to address the entire competition before the final – which will be streamed live to members from across the globe.

Cambridge Women's Competition

For many years there has been a chronic gender imbalance in University level debating, and so the Cambridge Union will be running an all-female competition to encourage participation. The competition will involve around 60 teams, and include debaters from most major UK universities.

Sponsorship of the competition would give the opportunity to be included in the name of the competition for the year, use of all the competition's email lists and social media, and the opportunity to address the entire competition before the final – which will be streamed live to members from across the globe.

Charitable Donations

The Union's £9.5m capital campaign is being launched in March 2017 to raise money for a construction project that will restore, expand and transform the Union building. The revenue from our expanded building will allow us to significantly expand our charitable activities around the world and lower membership fees to enable greater access for Cambridge students, regardless of background.

The campaign is looking to attract support from philanthropic individuals, charitable foundations and the private sector. If your company would be interested in donating to the campaign or sponsoring one of its fundraising events, please contact Oliver Mosley (Development Director). There are a variety of ways we can recognise your contribution in the long term.
