For almost two hundred years, the Cambridge Union Society has been a centrally located student hub, offering members the opportunity to meet, socialise and discuss the issues that matter to them. Membership of the Cambridge Union is available to all students at Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University and the cost of life membership works out at around £2.50 per week during a three year degree.

Debate the issues that matter, with the people that matter…

Every Thursday the Union hosts its world famous debates in which students have the opportunity to debate alongside statesmen and celebrities on a variety of key issues. Members often have the opportunity to attend dinner with the speakers before the debate and the voting results are announced afterwards in the bar, giving members yet another opportunity to meet the speakers. Furthermore, the Cambridge Union is the oldest debating society in the world and members who choose to participate in competitive public speaking and debating do so at the highest level in the world.

Hear the people who shape the world…

Throughout the term the Union welcomes leading figures from all walks of life to speak to members and answer their questions. In the past year alone Union members have had the opportunity to hear leading film stars such as Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench, whilst Julian Assange gave his first public appearance for six months to a fully packed Chamber.
