Access and Community

Our Contributions

In order to further our mission of promoting the art of debate, innovative thinking and free conversation, The Cambridge Union takes part in a number of access and community initiatives in Cambridgeshire and across the UK. 

Access Memberships

The Union is proud of our Access Membership Scheme, whereby any eligible student of University of Cambridge or Anglia Ruskin University can apply for a reduced-rate membership and still enjoy all the benefits of being a Life Member of The Cambridge Union. We offer three tiers of Access Membership based on household income, starting at just £95. Eligibility for Access Membership is dependent on bursary thresholds set by the university.

Schools Outreach

The Union supports many schools around the UK in the development of free speech and the art of debating. Any school is welcome to engage with our competitive debating and training packages, and state-funded schools are able to apply for funded support in developing public speaking and debating for young people.

Community and Local Businesses

The Cambridge Union, our Brasserie and Bar – The Orator – and our Corporate Events Team are all part of a thriving local and independent business community in Cambridgeshire. We’re proud to collaborate with many local outlets and offer ‘Treasurer’s Treats’ – which are deals and discounts at local stores exclusively for Cambridge Union members.
