Our Facilities

In 1860 the Society had sufficient funds to design their own building and employed the famous architect Sir Alfred Waterhouse, who would later design The Natural History Museum in London.

He designed a debating chamber with a clubhouse surrounding it, which would provide members with an excellent large meeting hall and a range of facilities where they could spend their time during the day.

The first building was finished in 1866 and extended over several years to provide not just the Debating Chamber, but extensive libraries, games rooms, dining facilities and members rooms.
