The Cambridge Union
This year’s General Election proved to be a victory for Britain’s smaller parties — with the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, Reform UK, and Independent MPs all gaining ground against the Conservatives and the Labour Party. The resulting government has since had no easy introduction to the job: far-right, racist riots across the country, protests of British foreign policy, and growing criticism of government economic policy have defined the first two months of its tenure. This debate will be particularly pertinent against this backdrop, and an opportunity to examine polarisation among the British population — particularly regarding questions of just how divided the UK has become in recent years.
