Debate: This House Believes There Is Still a Point in the Cambridge Union (Presidential)

Thursday, March 12, 2020 - 19:30

Debate

8:00pm - main debate

PROPOSITION

Gabriel Barton-Singer

Gabriel is the current President of the Cambridge Union. He previously served as Executive Officer in Michaelmas of 2018 before losing his subsequent bid for the Presidency badly. He later righted this wrong. He was Chair of the University Liberal Association from 2018-19, is a member of the Cambridge Footlights and having graduated from a history degree is now reading for an MPhil in Modern British History.

Colonel (Retd.) William Bailey MBE

Bill Bailey is the Bursar of the Cambridge Union, and aside from a previous career in the military, has been based at the Union for over a decade, as he endlessly reminds us all. He has seen over 30 different standing committees here, and knows exactly what it is that the Union does.

Baron Parkinson of Whitley Bay

Stephen Parkinson is a life peer, who was previously a special adviser to Theresa May as Home Secretary and Prime Minister, a think tank researcher, and a lobbyist. He wrote ‘Arena of Ambition’, the history of the Cambridge Union Society, and was President in Lent 2004.
