Justin Welby was born in 19556 and grew up in London and Norfolk. After studying at Trinity, Cambridge, and coming to Christian faith while there, he worked in the oil industry in Paris and then London for 11 years. In 1989 he started training for Church of England ordained ministry at Durham University (Cranmer Hall). From 1992-1995 he was a curate in Nuneaton, and from 1995-2002 a vicar near Leamington Spa. From 2002-07 he was co-leader of the reconciliation ministry at Coventry cathedral, travelling widely in Africa and the Middle East in places of armed conflict. He was Dean of Liverpool 2007-11, Bishop of Durham 2011-13 and Archbishop of Canterbury 2013-2025. He is married with five children and six grandchildren.
